The ASE Program Certification Standards for Collision Repair and Refinish contains a section called “Tools and Equipment.” The section is divided into three basis categories: Hand Tools, General Lab/Shop Equipment, and Specialty Tools and Equipment. The Specialty Tools section is further separated into the four NATEF task categories (Structural Analysis and Damage Repair, Non-Structural Analysis and Damage Repair [Body Components], Mechanical and Electrical Components, and Painting and Refinishing).
To assist the people that refer to the various lists (administrators, instructors, ETLs and evaluation team members, advisory committee members, etc.), I-CAR and the I-CAR Education Foundation has developed a visual tool list. The following sections are completed:
- Special Safety Items
- Non-Structural Analysis and Damage Repair (Body Components)
- Painting and Refinishing
The other areas will be completed at a later date.
To use one of the lists, first select the appropriate one from the options listed. The tools and/or equipment are listed in the identical order as found in the NATEF standards. Next to each word description is a thumbnail photo of it, or in the case that there may be more than one variety of the tool or piece of equipment, multiple pictures. Move the computer cursor over the picture you wish to select, and click. Now the photo will be displayed full-screen. Click again, and the picture size will be reduced.
