How to Handbook: 16. Placement of Graduates

Chapter 16- A. General Guidelines

Graduate PlacementInstructors and school placement counselors should not focus on finding a job for a student. They should focus on helping the student find a job. This will give students the job-seeking skills they will need in the future. Make students aware of available job-search resources, such as job listings and other materials available at libraries and employment offices.

When helping match a student and employer, consider the:

  • abilities and goals of the student.
  • skills sought by the employer.
  • ability of the employer to help an entry-level technician develop.

Interaction with the school's placement office is critical. Counselors and instructors must work together to develop and fill job openings.
