COLLISION REPAIR INSTRUCTORS NETWORK MEETING AT VICA 2001

Larry BullockThe Collision Repair Instructors Network (CRIN) Meeting was held on June 26, 2001 at Bartle Hall in Kansas City, MO. Larry Bullock, Program Specialist at the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education was the guest speaker. Mr. Bullock’s presentation was on the "Automotive Youth Educational Systems" (AYES) Program.This program is a partnership among participating automotivemanufacturers, participating dealers, and selected high schools/ vocational schools. It’s designed to encourage young people to consider satisfying careers in retail automotive service, and preparethem for entry-level positions or advanced studies in automotive technology. A presentation was also given by Ron Ray, Executive Director of the I-CAR Education Foundation on the I-CAR Industry Training Alliance Program and how this program is being offered to the Technical Schools.

THE I-CAR EDUCATION FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES THE RECIPIENT OF THE 2001 INSTRUCTOR OF THE YEAR AWARD

The Collision Repair Instructors Network (CRIN) and the I-CAR Education Foundation are proud to announce the 2001 Instructor of the Year!

Kim Beck is a Collision Repair Instructor at Brewer High School in Somerville, AL. He has been in the Collision Repair Industry for 32 years and has taught Collision Repair for 16 years. Kim earned his Masters Degree in Vocational Education from Alabama’s A and M University. For the past 11 years he has taught I-CAR classes such as CRC, Hazmat, Finish Matching, Detailing, CR2000, Electronics 1&2 and 3&4, plus Understanding Collision Repair.

Kim is ASE Certified in the areas of Painting and Refinishing, Non-structural Analysis and Damage Repair, Structural Analysis and Damage Repair, Plastics and Adhesive, as well as Mechanical and Electrical Components. Kim is also an ASE Master Certified Technician.

Kim’s program is taught using the I-CAR Education Foundation ADVANCE-TECH“ Curriculum and his placement rate is 95%. Students are currently wait-listed for entry into his program. To promote interest in Collision Repair, Kim invites 9th grade students into his program for a six week period where they work side-by-side with 10th, 11th, and 12th graders. A local Body Shop is totally manned by Kim’s students. He has actively participated in the Collision Repair Instructors Network activities at NACE since 1996 and has also been involved with VICA for 15 years with numerous State VICA winners.

The Collision Repair Instructors Network (sponsored by the I-CAR Education Foundation) presents the Instructor of the Year Award annually at the Skills USA-VICA Competitions in Kansas City, MO. This award honors the dedication and commitment of vocational-technical high school and college instructors.

This award is granted based on the following criteria:

  • Continuing their education
  • I-CAR trained
  • Teaches I-CAR Courses
  • ASE Certified
  • ASE Master Certified
  • Acquiring donations for their programs
  • Involvement with advisory committees and industry associations
  • Participation in NACE
  • Actively improving their programs and recruiting students
  • Participation in VICA
  • ASE/NATEF certified program
  • Usage of the ADVANCE-TECH“ Curriculum
