Education Foundation News: 1999 Education Foundation Press Releases: 1999 ArchivesDecember 01, 1999 I-CAR, Education Foundation Awards First MBNA Credit Card Scholarship (Rolling Meadows, IL) The I-CAR" Education Foundation awarded its first scholarship through proceeds earned from its MBNA affinity credit card program. Oscar Vasquez, a student at Amarillo College Technical Center will receive $1,000 to continue his education in auto collision repair. Vasquez is the Vice-President of the Auto Body Club at his school, works part-time as a detail technician at a local car wash, placed 3rd at his state VICA competition and maintains a 3.79 grade point average. "I am especially impressed with Oscar's willingness to study hard and learn all he can about his chosen career," said Keith Schieffer, Auto Collision Technology Instructor at Amarillo College. The I-CAR Education Foundation, founded in 1991, is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of entry-level employees for the Collision Industry. "Becoming a card holder is an effortless way to help improve our industry. We are providing young adults with an opportunity to continue their education and further develop their career interests in auto collision repair, which is a big part of our mission," said Ron W. Ray, Executive Director of the Foundation. The I-CAR Education Foundation began offering the MBNA Bank affinity MasterCard to the auto collision industry in January of 1999. For each new card issued and after every transaction, MBNA makes a contribution to the Foundation at no additional cost to cardholders. To date, 594 individuals and businesses have become cardholders. The credit card has no annual fee and proudly displays the Foundation's name and logo.
