THE I-CAR EDUCATION FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES 1997 INSTRUCTORS OF THE YEAR

(Rolling Meadows, IL) The Instructor of the Year Award was created by the I-CAR Education Foundation and the Collision Repair Instructors Network (CRIN), and is designed to recognize those instructors who have demonstrated excellence in teaching. The two "Instructors of the Year" are Robert Hodgson of Miami Lakes Technology Education Center in Miami Lakes, FL, and Paul Morris of R.D. Anderson Applied Technology Center in Moore, SC.

Bob has worked in the Collision Repair Industry for 31 years and has taught Collision Repair for 21 years. After receiving his Associate of Arts Degree at Miami-Dade Community College and his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Florida International University, Bob continued his education by attending courses from I-CAR", Chief, CCC, and Mitchell. Bob has taught numerous I-CAR courses in the 18 years that he has been an I-CAR Instructor and is an ASE Master Certified Technician.

Bob's Collision Repair Program is taught using the ADVANCE-TECH Curriculum and his program is ASE/NATEF certified in all five areas of expertise. Through his efforts within the industry, not only has he solicited and received equipment/supplies from every major collision repair vendor, but he is very active in student recruitment and placement. His placement rate is 80%.

Paul has worked in the Collision Industry for 21 years and has taught Collision Repair for 9 years. After earning his Associate Degree in Applied Science from Isothermal Community College, Paul continued his education by taking courses at Clemson University, I-CAR, Performance for Effective Teaching Program, and Spies-Hecker. Paul has taught every I-CAR course available in the eight years that he has been an I-CAR Instructor and is an ASE Master Certified Technician.

Paul's Collision Repair program is taught using the ADVANCE-TECH Curriculum and his program is ASE/NATEF certified in Structural Analysis and Damage Repair, Non-Structural Analysis and Damage Repair, and Plastic Repair. Paul actively recruits for his program using a variety of creative methods and he has solicited and received equipment/supplies from every major collision repair vendor. Paul was also voted as "Instructor of the Year" for his school by the students. His placement rate is 85%.

Winners were selected based on points earned in the following categories:

  • ASE certified or master certified
  • Teaches at an ASE/NATEF certified program
  • I-CAR trained
  • Involved in VICA and CRIN
  • Teaches or has taught I-CAR courses
  • Improving the school's collision repair program using the ADVANCE-TECH curriculum and actively recruiting students
  • High student placement rate into the Collision Industry
  • Attends the International Auto Body Congress and Exhibition (NACE)

The Collision Repair Instructors Network (CRIN), sponsored by the I-CAR Education Foundation, is a national organization designed to facilitate the exchange of technical and professional information among collision repair instructors, school administrators, and industry partners.

The I-CAR Education Foundation, founded in 1991, is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality and number of entry-level employees for the Collision Industry.
