Education Foundation FAQsWhat is the I-CAR Education Foundation? The I-CAR Education Foundation was founded to address the industry’s critical shortage of entry-level employees. As an affiliate of I-CAR, the Education Foundation was incorporated November 29, 1990, and began operation on April 1, 1991. Its IRS 501 (C)(3) status allows it to accept grants and donations from government agencies, individuals, and businesses. These donations are tax-deductible. What is the mission of the I-CAR Education Foundation? To secure donations that support philanthropic and collision repair education activities that promote and enhance career opportunities in the industry. If I donate to the I-CAR Education Foundation, how does it support the future of the collision industry? Image/Recruitment: The Education Foundation continues to recruit youth into the collision industry by developing marketing materials and providing students, instructors, parents, and school administration with information such as the Snapshot of the Collision Industry Survey, the Get On Track career day brochure, and the Smart Jobs/Smart People DVD. Distribution of these materials is available at no cost. Career and Technical School and College Instructor Support: The Collision Repair Instructors Network (CRIN) provides networking opportunities and product demonstrations for participating instructors. Instructors are also supplied with online curriculum support and marketing materials to assist with recruitment, NATEF/ASE certification, and provide students with recommended training paths. Curriculum Distribution: Many students that are currently enrolled in a career and technical school or college are now being taught using the I-CAR Live curriculum, a CD-ROM based curriculum that provides students with a great lecture and hands-on experience. Training, Placement, and Mentorship: In an effort to reduce redundant training, students that attend a career and technical school or college that is a member of the Industry Training Alliance enter the collision industry eligible for I-CAR points, which can be applied to the industry-recognized I-CAR Gold Class Professionals® and Platinum Individual™ designations. In addition, students that participate in the PACE+ST“® program have been trained on 54 entry-level tasks and may also qualify for I-CAR points. Administrative: Outside support provides the Education Foundation with the ability to ensure that all areas can function appropriately and are able to support career and technical school and college collision repair programs. In addition, the Education Foundation works with I-CAR committees, other associations, and businesses to facilitate restricted projects that mutually benefit the collision industry. Where can I find a list of career and technical schools or colleges that have collision repair programs? The I-CAR Education Foundation has a list of schools participating in the Industry Training Alliance available. By attending one of these schools, a student has the potential of earning I-CAR points. Click here to view the list. In addition, ASE has a list of schools that are ASE-certified to the NATEF standards. Visit www.natef.org for more information.
